Duties

As an INTELLIGENCE OPERATIONS SPECIALIST within the NATIONAL CIVIL APPLICATIONIS CENTER, some of your specific duties will include:

- Identifies areas of mutual interest on environmental security issues by engaging with the CAC (Civil Applications Committee) Chair and other governmental scientific leaders in Federal Civil, Intelligence and Defense agencies leading to increased data and information sharing, interagency science exchanges, joint projects, and other areas of enhanced collaboration. Environmental security issues include, but are not limited to climate analyses, food, energy, Arctic/Antarctic, water shortage and other world issues.
- Supports the existing thermal, historic imagery, environmental security and global fiducials working groups of the CAC as a member of the Secretariat to look for intersections and actions that furthers environmental security collaboration.
- Facilitates the development of new civil environmental applications leveraging data and information from the DoD, Intelligence Community, and Federal Civil agencies bringing together analysts and scientists from across the US government with academia, industry, and non-governmental organizations.
- Engages researchers and policy officers within the DoD and Intelligence Community to develop new procedures and legal authorities for the broader use of derived products that support interagency environmental security collaboration in the Federal Civilian community, following all applicable security guidelines.

Key Requirements:

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?

  • Prior to appointment, the selectee will be required to take and pass, at Federal expense, a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use. From thereon, the individual may be subject to random drug testing.
  • Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.
  • A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-13 level:

Possess one year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. Examples of GS-12 level work: minimum guidance from the supervisor and is responsible for duty based expertise in planning and managing tasks and following data and security policies related to the environmental security community; problem solve and coordinate work with staff members and/or higher level representatives within the environmental security and Intelligence Community; expert concerning environmental security missions across the DoD and Intelligence Community; build collaborative initiatives associated with environmental security mission initiatives in federal and international arenas.

Education

  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Upon completion of initial 7–9 week Recruit Training (known as Boot Camp), those pursuing an Intelligence Specialist role report to Dam Neck, Va., where they receive formal Navy technical training at “A” School for approximately 13 weeks followed by advanced training at “C” School for 5–13 weeks.
